Press release for Carl Gerges Architects X Bottega Veneta

Carl Gerge’s architects’ latest collaboration with Bottega Veneta transforms an industrial place in Dubai’s Al Sirkal into a hub for the creative community. The Bottega modern day “majlis” has elements from a traditional Arabic conversation pit, interwoven with modern-day conversations and settings.

“The idea is to integrate a green vessel – inside the cubic venue – emphasizing the square within a square structure, and creating a subtle arabesque pattern.”

From the outside, the space shows through the translucent polycarbonate, inciting intrigue and facilitating an exchange with the venue: although it is accessible to select guests, it isn’t exclusive or secluded.

Happening during the holy month of Ramadan, the square features poets, artists and intellectuals from eclectic backgrounds: rooted in both traditional and contemporary disciplines. Inspired by the brand’s fabric that is both ancestral and innovative, the intervention presents a theatrical space that pays tribute to Italian architecture whilst reflecting the hospitality, warmth and colloquialism of a Middle Eastern gathering.

The space was brought to life with instrumental music, live poetry/spoken words, oud players, and coveted Dubai chef Solemann Haddad.

The Bottega pit takes cues from its Italian roots and its Arabian future; a space for wonderment, dialogue, and meaningful connection.
